I am polycarbonate, everyone calls me PC

1. Introduction
Polycarbonate (abbreviated as PC) is a high molecular polymer containing carbonate groups in the molecular chain. It is a transparent colorless or slightly yellow tough solid. Its transparency is second only to PMMA and PS. Its light transmittance can reach 89%. It is odorless, non-toxic, and has good colorability. It can be made into various colorful products.
Basic properties of polycarbonate
Chemical formula

[-C6H4C(CH3)2C6H4OCO2-]n

English name:Polycarbonate
CAS:25037-45-0

The influence of groups on the main chain on PC

1. Phenylene group: a large rigid group that limits the internal rotation of the molecular chain segment;

2. Ester group: a strong polar group that provides a large intermolecular force to bind the molecular chains to each other and weaken the flexibility of the molecular chains;

Phenylene and ester groups determine that PC is a large molecule with strong rigidity. Therefore, the glass transition temperature and melting temperature of the polymer are high, the melt viscosity is high, the molecular chain is not easy to slip under the action of external force, has strong deformation resistance, high mechanical strength, and good solvent resistance and water resistance.

Classification

According to the different -R- groups, polycarbonate can be divided into several types, such as aliphatic, alicyclic, aromatic and aliphatic-aromatic. Unless otherwise specified, polycarbonate usually refers to bisphenol A polycarbonate and its modified varieties.

According to the use, polycarbonate can be divided into anti-static PC, conductive PC, fiber-reinforced fireproof PC, UV-resistant and weather-resistant PC, food-grade PC, and chemical-resistant PC.
