Requirements For Colorants For Masterbatches

The pigment used in masterbatch must pay attention to the matching relationship between the pigment and plastic raw materials and additives, and its selection points are described below.
(1) The pigment can not react with resin and various additives, strong solvent resistance, small migration, good heat resistance, etc. That is, masterbatches cannot participate in various chemical reactions. For example, carbon black can control the curing reaction of polyester plastic, so carbon black material cannot be added to polyester.
Due to the high molding temperature of plastic products, the pigment should not decompose and change color under the condition of molding heating temperature. Generally, inorganic pigments have good heat resistance, and organic pigments and dyes have poor heat resistance, which should attract sufficient attention when selecting pigment varieties.
(2) The dispersion and coloring strength of the pigment should be good. When the pigment is dispersed unevenly, it will affect the appearance and performance of the product; When the coloring strength of the pigment is poor, the amount of pigment will increase and the material cost will increase. The dispersion and coloring strength of the same pigment are not the same in different resins, so this should be paid attention to when selecting pigments.
The particle size of the pigment is also related to the dispersion, the smaller the particle size of the pigment, the better the dispersion and the strong coloring strength.
(3) Other properties of pigments should be understood, such as plastic products used in food and children's toys, and colorants should be non-toxic; Plastic products used in electrical appliances should be selected with good electrical insulation; For outdoor plastic products, pigments with good weather aging resistance should be selected.
